Hampta gives you a meticulous walk in its two different terrains of Kullu and Lahaul. It also offers spectacular views of Dhauladhar, Chandra Bagha, Mulkila and high peaks of Indrasan, Deo Tibba, Shigri Parvat, Kullu Pumori and a few other peaks. It also is filled with a lot of surprises as you pass through turbulent streams, snow bridges, glaciers and boulder zones. At the end of the trek you are delighted with Moon lake which adds more charm in your journey. All in all Hampta Pass trek is all in one trek rich in its flora and fauna and a lot of undulating views.
Hampta pass is essentially a river alley trek where you meet tributary Beas river amidst green Kullu valley. And while descending you meet a tributary of Chandra river having a barren and rocky area in Lahaul.
The river valley in Hampta pass remains in bloom during late Summer to late September undulating a fruitful pleasure.
Itinerary:
Day 01- Manali to Jobra
To start your trek you first need to reach Manali by vehicle. After acclimating yourself you then start your trek to reach the height of 10,000 feet. You pass through a variety of trees like maple, deodar and oak and gushing streams welcoming you. When you reach Rani Nallah you will be welcomed with lush green meadows. The surreal views you come across will make you go crazy. You then reach Cheeka at the end of the vast meadow. The route is quite scenic and gracious Rani river flowing will accompany you beside your camping tents.
Day 02- Cheeka to Balu Ka Ghera
The trek to Balu ka Ghera is a 4 hrs easy trek which will lead you to rough terrain and slope of boulders. You will see stunning news of Dhauladhar range in the background and Indrasan peak too. The most exciting part of this day is river crossing giving you an infinite pleasure. At night you camp at Balu Ka Ghera, perfect for camping surrounded by lush green mountains.
Day 03- Balu Ka Gera to Shea Goru camp
This day you climb to Hampta pass lying at an altitude of 14,107 feet. You pass through charming orange and pink vibrant colour flowers along the river. From there climb to Hampta pass becomes strenuous. You come across Deo Tibba plateau as you pass two ridges.
After reaching the pass, spend some time cherishing its beauty from above and then begin descending to Shea Goru which is steep providing a lot of challenges.
Day 04- Shea Goru camp to Chatru camp and drive to Chandratal
The day begins with a gradient trek to reach the first plateau. You pass through two ridges and you may face windy weather with high chances of rain or snow. So cherish this place in a limited period of time and then ascend to witness the lahaul side of the pass. And when you reach Chandratal the snow clad mountains surround you with its utmost glory.
Day 05- Chatru camp through Rohtang pass to Manali
You start your day with a gentle downhill alongside the river between the mountains. As you move closer the trek becomes a little steep so you need to use the edge of the rocks. You may witness two or three glaciers flow down from the mountain at the side of Chandra river so be careful in descending. You head back to Manali from Chatru with a pack of blissful memories with you.
